Govt seek NRNs services Monday, July 31, 2006 | MP
Karnataka Govt has expressed its desire to utilise Infosys Chief mentor N R Narayana Murthy's services who is retiring on Aug 1st.Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said that government would look forward to benefit Murthy's services in promoting industry sectors like IT, BT and high precison engineering.It is my intention to use the services of Murthy to suitably advise us in nurturing abilities of entrepreneurs to show excellent results",said HDK while participating in the Infosys's silver jubilee celebrations.
Helmet rule to be delayed Sunday, July 30, 2006 | MP
The State Government is yet to decide on as to when to enforce the helmet rule making it compulsory for two wheeler riders and pillion riders to wear helmet while driving.The helmet rule which was directed by the Karnataka High Court was likely to come into effect from August 1st and now it is said to be delayed to a few month's time.Meanwhile the govt say it is committed to implement the rule but the move to extend the deadline in enforcing the rule was to give more time for the people to buy helmets.

BOC to invest Rs 4bn for Bellary plant Friday, July 28, 2006 | MP
Industrial gases major BOC India Limited has said that it has plans to invest Rs 4 billion for the air seperation plant project in Bellary. Officials indicated that the company was ready to invest Rs.3.5 billion to Rs.4 billion in the project.The Linde AG of Germany had recently offered to buy out BOC's parent firm BOC Group Plc which is likely to boost BOC India's operations.

The Indian Cricket Team has reached Bangalore for the weeklong conditioning camp to prepare the team ahead of the India's tri-series in Sri Lanka. And this time the Indian team's physical trainer is trying out new method for the cricketers by taking the team to a distant training camp at the outskirts of the City for a 3 day practise session. The players are also getting trained at the Pegasus Institute near Doddaballapur. "It is a team management decision to try out new techniques. In the past too, we tried out a few new things which produced positive results," the Indian trainer said . The players will also have a recovery session of yoga, swimming and teki. The rest of the training will continue at the National Cricket Academy premises in Bangalore.
BA for Blore-London daily flights Tuesday, July 25, 2006 | MP
British Airways(BA) is extending its Bangalore-London sector flights to daily services by October end. At present BA flies six times a week and this will be made to seven times effective from October 30th. BA had recently incresed its frequency of flights from five to six a week. The increasing demand of traffic between the two cities have made the European carrier to further raise the frequency of flights, said BA South Asian Manager announcing the new flight. The new flight, BA118 will leave from the Bangalore International airport at 6.45 a.m. daily.
Tulu film Suddha gets Best Film Award Monday, July 24, 2006 | MP
The Tulu language feature film, Suddha (The Cleansing Rites) directed by debutant Ramachandra P.N. has earned the Best Film award at the Indian competition category in the 8th Osian Cinefan Festival of ASian Cinema that concluded in New Delhi. Ramachandra along with two other Mumbai Kannadigas has made this film, also the first ever Tulu language film shot on the digital format. Suddha shot in Marnad near Mangalore depicts the death of the feudal system that existed among the Tulu speaking community in coastal Karnataka and the impact the land ceiling act, ushered during the sixties and seventies, has had on its social structure. Girish Kasarvalli's Nayi Neralu has won the special Jury prize in the Indian competition section in the fest.

Preethi Yeke Bhoomi Melidhe is the next project in the offing from the Kannada super hit director Prem. The film also marks Prem's debut as an actor who wil play the hero in the film. There are reports that Jennifer Kotwal is one of the heroine for the film.The project will go on floors in early August.Producers are Ashwini Ramprasad and Krishnaprasad. R.P.Patnayak is the music director for the film. The film has 9 songs. After Jogi, one can expect another blockbuster from Prem with Preethi Yeke Bhoomi Melidhe.

Noted Kannada filmmaker and national award winner, Girish Kasaravalli's Nayi Neralu(In the shadow of the dog) was premiered at the Osian Cinefan, the 8th festival of Asian Cinema held in Newdelhi. The film was well recieved at the festival and even competing with other Asian films in the festival.The film adapted from a S L Byrappa's novel deals on the complex subject of reincarnation. The film is likely to be released in Karnataka during September-October.

Former deputy CM and Janata Dal (S) leader Siddaramaiah resigned from the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.Siddaramaiah who had asked the Speaker for an oppurtunity to make a statement on his resignation was not allowed to speak in the house and he later submitted his resignation to the Speaker. Opposition Congress members also had staged dharnas and walkout in Assembly for not letting Siddaramaiah make a statement on the floor of the House.Siddaramaiah who had met Congress President Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi is expected to join Congress soon.
Maasthi, film title dropped Tuesday, July 18, 2006 | MP
After heavy protest from Kannada activists over the film title, 'Maasthi', the film director Shivamani has said that the film would be given a new name. The film was given the name 'Maasthi', as it associates to the title role of a rowdy character played in the film. Incidentally 'Maasthi' is the nickname of a popular Kannada literary personality and this has triggered a debate over the title of the film. Finally actor Shivarajkumar had intervened and settle down the issue and the problem was solved with the crew offering to change the film title.

Professional course fees to be cut down Sunday, July 16, 2006 | MP
Karnataka government has decided to cut down the fees for the medical, dental and engineering courses in government and aided colleges. The fee structure for the free seat category in govt. and aided engineering colleges will go down from Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 8,590.Also the payment seats category fees for medical will be reduced from Rs. 2.90 lakh to Rs. 2 lakh and for dental from Rs. 2.30 lakh to Rs.1.50 lakh. The difference in the revised fee structure would be met by the Government,said the minister for Higher Education.

Wi-Fi launched in Blore City Railway station Friday, July 14, 2006 | MP
The South Western Railways along with Vsnl and RailTel has launched the hi-speed wireless facility Wi-Fi connectivity for internet browsing at the Bangalore City Railway Station. This can be availed using scratch cards offered at Rs. 10 ( for 30 mts use), and Rs. 20(1 hr usage) which are for one time usage. Besides another initiative called 'Cyber Express', was also set up with cyber cafes providing facilities for email, chats, Internet telephony, printing, scanning, CD-writing and mobile handset charging etc.These services will soon be made avilable at other stations like Cantonment, Krishnarajapuram, Tumkur etc. Railway Board has also decided to put up 82 more cyber cafes in Hubli and Mysore. RailTel has also plans for lanching pre-paid cards with roaming facility so that customers can have access to any other RailTel cyber cafes in the country.

The proposed Medical college in Belgaum, Belgaum Institute of Medical Sciences is expected to start functioning by this academic year. Medical Council of India (MCI) had given clearance for the college after inspection and following this the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had given permission for admitting 100 students every year. This permit is given initially for a year and could be renewed on an annual basis after verification as required by MCI norms.

Following theTuesday's Mumbai serial blasts,security has been beefed up across the state particulary in places boardering the Maharastra region. Chief Minister has held an emergency meeting to review on the security situation in the state and the state police has been asked to deploy additional forces in the sensitive areas and important buildings including vital installations and scientific centers in Bangalore.

Cyanide is based on plot of the terrorist killing of the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. It talks on the terrorist frame of mind their fears and philosophies on life. Camerawork is excellent.The film excels with some powerful performances by the top cast. Marathi artiste Ravi Kale enacts the role of Shivarasan, the photographer the key accused in the assasination case. Malavika plays Shubha while Rangayana Raghu plays Ranganath who gave protection to the terrorists and Tara plays Mridula his helpless wife.Rathnavelu's camerawork is commendable.

Kannada director Kavitha Lankesh's next project Thananam Thananam is a musical entertainer. The film deals on the popular aspect of music and its elements,but centrally themed around a love story. Actors Ramya, Rakshita and Shaam play the lead roles in the film. Noted award winner, Girish Karnad plays a music teacher in the film. Thananam Thananam music is scored by Kalyan and has six tracks in it. The film is far progressing with its shooting.

The Opposition, COngress party has demanded a CBI inquiry into the issues over the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor project and interrupted the normal proceedings in the Assembly house. Responding to the judicial probe ordered by Chief Minister Kumaraswamy, opposition leader Dharam Singh said: ‘The judicial probe will not serve any purpose. If the government is sincere in exposing those who colluded with the promoter, it should seek a CBI inquiry.’ Other members from the opposition parties including the CPI(M), RPI, JD(U) and Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha joined in support with the Congress and staged protest.

Kannada actress Prema tied the knot with Jeevan, a software professional at a wedding ceremony held in Bangalore on Thursday. The event which took place at Kodava Samaj in Bangalore was attended by many from the Kannada film industry including actors Ambarish, Ramesh Aravind, Jai Jagdish, Jayanti, Dwarakish, Sudha Rani, Ravichandran, Balaji etc. There were many other guests from the film and television media. Karnataka Cheif Minister H D Kumaraswamy has announced that his government would introduce a new scheme to provide one bed room houses to the poor families in the state. The scheme is aimed at assisting the poor and those like auto drivers, garment factory labourers etc could make use of the program, he said. However the CM did not disclose any details of the scheme but mentioned that it will be introduced before the urban local body polls.

Tirupati is an action flick directed by Shivamani. Actor Sudeep plays the main character of a police officer in the film. Heroine Pooja Kanwal has nothing much to offer. Sudeep excels with his performance and adds power to the film. Tirupati serves as an action thriller with power packed performance from Sudeep which makes it worth a watch.Charan Raj as villain suits in his role. P.N.Sathya, Rangayana Raghu, Ashok Rao, Sudharani etc casts in the film.The second half is completely filled with lot of action sequencs. A pure treat for all those action lovers!!
PGCET merit list for MBA,MCA on July 18 Monday, July 3, 2006 | MP
The merit list of the Post Graduate Common Entrance Test(PGCET) for admissions to MBA and MCA programmes for 2006-07 conducted by Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), will be announced on July 18th.The test was held on July 1st and around 9800 students had appeared for MBA tests and 2388 for the MCA exams. And as per the VTU Registrar,candidates who have not submitted the mark cards are asked to submit the same before July 14th.

Good Luck directed by Nandakumaris a take on the fashion and modelling industry.The film scored with a rather fresh subject but failed to keep up with its script. Male leads Aniruddh, Akshay Krishna excels in their roles. However heroines Radhika, Damini has nothing much to offer than being just galmorous. The movie is technically sound but the story is weak in many a ways. P.K.H. Doss's camerawork is excellent.

The World Bank has approved a $20 million loan for State to improve on services in rural Karnataka.The aid will be to "effectively deliver" services like primary health, primary education, drinking water and sanitation to the people by the panchayats. “Gram Panchayats have the potential to help change the lives of rural communities in India. This project will improve public services and investment under the responsibility of local governments which are best suited to meet local needs and demands, and foster economic growth in disadvantaged areas.”,said the World Bank country director for India, Michael Carter.
