Demand made for Gulbarga-Bangalore train

The Hyderabad Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HKCCI) has urged the Union Railways for a daily night train to be introduced between Gulbarga and Bangalore. Presently people of Gulbarga has to depend on Udhyan Express from Mumbai or Bijapur-Yeshwantpur Express train for travelling to Bangalore. Moreover Bijapur-Yeshwantpur Express runs only thrice a week. HKCCI has also asked for extending the operations of Bijapur-Yeshwantpur Express to daily services as an immediate option if the former demand for the daily train from Gulbarga-Blore cannot be met.

Chikungunya disease in control: Health Minister

Karnataka Health Minister R Ashok has informed in the Assembly that the Chikungunya viral fever that had spread in the state was in control and the number of cases of the disease was coming down. There were over 2.3 lakh reported cases in the state and government has allocated Rs 4.25crore to control the disease. He said that the districts of Gulbarga, Bidar, Bellary and Gadag were adversely hit by the disease. Proper measeures are being taken and the government is monitoring the situation,he added.

Pyramid launches Digital Theater chain in Blore

Pyramid Saimira Theater Ltd. has launched their digital theater chain in Bangalore on Monday. With the introduction of digital theater system the Chennai based Pyramid Saimira has made their entry into the Karnataka market which plans to have 2000 screens across the country by 2010. The firm's entry into the state is expected to bring in major revival in production of Kannada films and increase the revenue for Kannada film producers, exhibitors and distributors.

Kumaraswamy to Singapore

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, will be heading to Singapore on a 3day visit starting from Tuesday. He is likely to meet political leadear and various Singaporean company officials during his visit. The visit is also aimed at attracting more investments to Karnataka in IT and infrastrucutre and also improved bilateral trade between the two nations. The CM will also take part in lunch hosted by the Singaporean Trade and Industry Minister Lim Hng Kiang.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who was in Bangalore for the foundation stone laying ceremony of Bangalore Metro Project stressed upon the need to reininvent the City itself to keep Bangalore ahead of other cities in India. He also called upon the city dwellers to make Bangalore a better place with better standards of living and keeping the cost of living lower therby making the City more investor friendly. He asserted that growth should extend beyond Bangalore to the rest of Karnantaka as well.Both the rural and urban areas need to develop and growth should be there for all to build India as a equitable and humane nation.

TCS has expansion plans to Mysore,Mlore,Hubli

IT major, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has pland to extend its operations beyond Bangalore to other secondary cities of the state like Mysore, Manglaore, Hubli. TCS has presently 5 centers in Bangalore. Besides this the firm is planning to invest around Rs 1,100 crore in Karnataka over the next couple of years. As apart of its expansion plans, the firm wants to propose 100 acres of land in Bangalore and Mysore and 50 acres each in the other tier 2 cities.

Rakshita-Prem to wed by year end

8 new ministers inducted in coalition ministry

In the second expansion of the coalition Ministry headed by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, 8 new ministers were inducted including CM's own brother, H D Revanna. The new members comprised of 4 ministers each from coalition patners, JD(S) and BJP. With this the total strength of the ministry is 30, including 15 members from BJP and 13 from JDS. But so far no woman candidate has been inducted into the ministry.

Toonskool-KSOU to offer BSc program in Animation

An MoU was signed between the Bangalore based Toonskool Advanced Animation Academy and Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) to begin a 3 year degree program in animation. With the increased demand for jobs in the animation industry, the BSc degree progam offered by the KSOU gives high end training for aspirants seeking a career as animation professionals. B.Sc. Degree in Animation will be made available through the KSOU approved study centres across the country.Initially the program will be introduced in NITTE Education Trust-NITTE Institute of Technology,Bangalore, Thakur College in Kandivli, Mumbai and H L Sonawane College in Kalyan, Maharashtra.

BMIC: No threat to govt, says BJP

Over the BMIC row, BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu said that there was no threat to the JD(S)-BJP coalition government in Karnataka and also proposed a three point formulae to its coalition partner,JD(s) on the BMIC project.The BJP leader was in Bangalore to attend the BJP Legislature party meeting and said the party was in view of keeping the BMIC project but on condition that the excess land be returned back to farmers. He also said that the project promoters, NICE should take social responsibility like building houses to the affected and taking up community services.

I flex signs MoU for quality education in schools

Software solutions provider, i flex solutions has signed an MOU with the Karnataka government aimed at providing quality education in schools across the state.As per the agreement,i-flex solutions will set up a Decision Support System (DSS) estimated at a cost of Rs. 1 crore, to help the state education department monitor and analyse the quality of elementary education in schools. The programme is expected to assesss quality of education using i flex technology expertise in 41,000 schools of 200 taluks across the various districts of Karnataka.

Honeymoon Express directed by Nagendra Magadi is a laugh riot allthe way. Main casts are S Narayan and Jaggesh who do complete justice to their roles. The comic scenes stands elevated with the performance of theses stars.However the heroines Deepu and Santoshi are not so impressive. Other casts are Srinath, Rangayana Raghu, Umashree, Komal , Sharan etc. It would had been much better if little more attention was paid on to the script.Anaji Nagaraj's camera work is okay and few songs in the film also turns out good.

BMIC road opens; Govt boycotts function

A stretch of the controversial Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor road was thrown open on Friday by the BMIC promoters NICE even as the government stayed away from the inaugural functions. A 9-km stretch of the peripheral road at the Mysore Road to Kanakapura Road was thrown open for the traffic at the function which went smoothly amidst tight security and in the absence of government officials.

Its the season of remakes and Ugadi is such another version of the Telungusuperhit Nagarjuna starrer, Santosham. The Kannada version will have Ravichandran playing the lead role. Besides him, Telungu star Srikanth plays a key role in the film. Director Sai Prakash is making the film with Ravichandran after films like 'Odahuttidavalu' and 'Neelakanta'.Jennifer Kotwal and Telungu, Tamil actress Kamna Jethmalani will play the female leads. The film is already on floors and will be shot in locations at Bangalore, Switzerland etc.

Symphony to set up second center in Blore

Symphony Services, the US based outsourcing solutions provider has unveiled its plans to open its second development center in Bangalore. This is Symphony's fourth development center in India, the others being in Pune and Mumbai. The new Centre, Symphony Innovation and Excellence Center will be housed in Bangalore in a span of 2 lakh sq feet area which is expected to employ over 2000 employees.

Cong seeks CM disqualification

The state Congress party in Karnataka has demanded Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy's disqualification of the Assembly membership and alleged that the CM had filed 'false affidavit' while contesting in the 2004 assembly elections. The opposition even challenged that it would petition the election Commission for action against the Chief Minister for giving false information in the affidavit about the whereabouts of the property he owned in Ramangaram taluk. Congress leaders said that the CM in the affidavit has declared the ownership of only 24 acres of land while the records showed that he had 46 acres of land at Kettiganahally village in Ramangaram taluk.

BMIC promoters tried to buy me, alleges CM

Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has alleged that the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor(BMIC) project promoters, Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise(NICE) had tried to buy him expecting favours in return.'Soon after I became the chief minister, the promoters of the project tried to buy me out." said CM who said that he was approached by a journalist in behalf of them.The CM revealed this during a press conference but refused to disclose any further details on this. He also claimed that NICE has acquired excess land for developing townships. Kumaraswamy said that he was ready to go for an open debate on the issue. Meanwhile NICE denied the accusations and said that it would take the issue to the Supreme Court if the government fail to comply with the court's directions.

Datta from debutant director Gurudatt has Darshan and Ramya playing the lead roles. Darshan p uts up a good performance in the title role. Heroine Ramya too is okay. Komal, Avinash, Vinaya Prasad etc do justice to their respective roles. The film serves as a good entertainer with action, comedy and sentiments weaved in the right manner. Songs and visual effects are appealing. Ramesh Babu's camerawork deserves special mention.

Director Gurudatt's Datta is a family entertainer and is the first production release from the banner of Uday Ravi. The film has Dharshan and Ramya playing the lead roles. The movie is being shot at Mysore, Chamrajnangar etc. Some of the songs are being shot at Austria. Other casts are Srinath, Avinash, Vinayaprasad, Chitra Shenoy, Komal, Y.K.Sunder, Shekar Kotyan etc. 'Datta' is being made at a budget of Rs.45 lakhs. Ashwini Productions is the distributor for the film.

Bus fares up; No change in min fare

On account of the increased fuel prices, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has decided to hike its bus fares by an average of 8%. However there will be no change in the existing minimum fare of Rs 2 for the first sub stage of 3 km. The new revised fares has come in effect from Sunday,June 11. BMTC too has hiked the fares by an average of 8% but with no changes in the existing minimum fare. However only some bus routes are affected by the fare hike, while in some routes the fares are hiked by Re 1.The rise in bus ticket rates are to meet the additional costs of Rs 69.26 crore which the corporation has to spent in consequence of the recent hike in petrol and diesel prices,says KSRTC.

Earlier during his visit to the UAE,the Chief minister also called on the investors of the UAE to make use of the various opportunities prevailing in Karnataka in the IT,BT as well as other sectors like infrastructure development,and tourism sectors.

Life time achievement award for Vishnuvardhan

Kannada superstar Dr.Vishnuvardhan was felicitated with the life time achievement award during the inaugural functon of the International Film Week 2006 that kicked off in Bangalore on Thursday. The actor was honoured for his significant contributions to the art of cinema.Vishnuvardhan after recieving the award from Ambassador of France in India and actor and MP Ambarish, said that he dedicated the award to the Kannada film industry. The Film week is jointly organised by the Forum FIlms,Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce and the Embassy of France and is being held in Mysore and Mangalore concurrently from June 9th to 15th.

AIDS incidence high in Karnataka districts

AIDS incidence in India has been reported high in the Karnataka districts among the South Indian states.Karnataka spotted the highest HIV prevalence rates along with Andhra Pradesh in the South with as many as 18 districts in Karnataka having high AIDS prevalence rates. The rates were based on data collected during screening of women attending antenatal clinics.This was seen more in and around Bangalore and bordering regions of the State with TamilNadu. Of the 95 districts in India, 18 districts belonged to Karnataka which included districts like Bangalore, Bagalkot, Bijapur,Chamrajnagar, Dharward,Gadag, Hassan, Mysore , Kodag etc. And many of these disticts reported high prevalence of over 1%.

Miss California directed by Kodlu Ramakrishna based on C N Mukta's novel Meghamandara talks about a young girl's aspirations to win beauty queen of contest of Ms california. The film is visually appealing and a portrayal on the differences between Indian and Western culture. Some of the songs are impressive.Newcomers Dignath and Janu makes notable performances. Sowmya, Sharath Babu, Geetga, Dattareya etc. casts in the film. A C Mahendar's camerawork deserves special mention. The director's presentation of the novel with a different subject makes Miss California worth a watch.

Govt nod for Rs.103 cr Biotech park in Blore

The Karnatka Government has given green signal for setting up a bio tech park in the State which is estimated at a cost of Rs 103 crore. The project proposed to set up in Bangalore was cleared by the state cabinet in a meeting. The project in its first phase will include an institute of bioinformatics and applied biotechnology and a seperate centre for human genetics which is to be bulid at a cost of Rs 14cr. The second phase of the Biotech project will have a biotech incubation centre and a common instrumentation facility proposed at a cost of Rs 67 cr.

Sudeep for another Cheran remake

After the huge success of Kannada film, My Autograph the first directorial venture of actor Sudeep, the star is set to make one more Kannada remake film of Tamil director, Cheran. This time round Sudeep is inspired by Cheran's Tamil film,'Thavamai Thavamirindhu'. The Kannada version titled 'Appa Magha' will have Sudeep himself along with megastar Dr Vishnuvadhan playing the lead roles. As the title suggests the film is themed on family relations and the duo will be seen in son and father roles.

My Autograph still a favorite at theaters

Even after completing a 100 days run, Kannada actor Sudeep's directorial debut, My Autograph is the most favoured film among the Kannada cine goers. The film has not lost its charm and and is still running succesfully at many of the theaters. Though a remake, the huge success of the film is clearly attributed to the director's style of narration and the eye for the detail along with the visual appeal and some outstanding performances by its actors. And music is another essence of the film and thats why the film's music albums are equally a superhit in the markets.

Online lotteries to continue

The ban on online lotteries by the state governmnet was put on hold by the Karnataka High Court which said that it was against the law as seen by the Supreme Court. The court also indicated the government's decision as discriminative by prohibiting only a section of lotteries. "If you want to declare Karnataka a 'lottery-free zone', then ban all forms of lotteries. The selective ban of only online lotteries is not sustainable under law, "the Court Bench said.

Ramu-Shivamani teams up with Upendra

Coastal Karnataka hit by heavy rains

Heavy rains and stormy weather over the past days has hit the coastal areas of Karnataka killing 6 people and leaving hundreds of fishermen stranded in the sea.A team of Coastal Gaurd are also put in place who is coordinating with the rescue operations. The coastline of Malpe, Bhatkal, and Kundapur are said to be worst hit and heavy damages are reported in the rain hit Udupi districts. Incessant rains has also claimed 4 lives in Mangalore district.
