Vitage technologies sets up centre at Bangalore

Vitage Technologies, a business service management company, today announced setting up of a centre for remote delivery of its business services management operations in Bangalore. Entailing an initial cumulative investment of close to Rs 15 crore, the new centre is capable of remote managing large volume of nodes and delivers services round the clock.

HIV/AIDS test before marriage

The State Government is examining a proposal to make it mandatory for prospective couples to undergo an HIV/AIDS test before marriage. "We will provide all the assistance if private institutions come forward to set up medical colleges in various districts, the Minister told BJP member Arvind Limbavali. Replying to Congress member Salim Ahmed during Question Hour in the Legislative Council, Health Minister R. Ashok said the proposal was being considered to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. We want that there should be consensus on the issue first amongst the entire political class in Karnataka and other states also before the measure is implemented. The government wants that the rule should apply even when the bride and groom are from different states, he added. Ashok said the government had been studying the issue since the past few months after demands from several non-government organisations of the need for such a law. He said the government had also approached the centre in this regard.

MADIKERI: District Administration, Kodagu ZP, District Health and Family Welfare departments will jointly hold a three-day district level free health camp at district hospital premises from March 14. Addressing the media in Madikeri, district surgeon Dr V D Palekar said, the camp will be inaugurated by the district-in-charge Minister Ramachandra Gowda. The health camp will be assisted by the KVG Medical college, KVG Ayurveda college, Coorg Institution of Dental Sciences, Bharath Hospital, Preethi Cancer Centre from Mysore, Vijaya Charitable Trust from Mangalore and many other local social service organisations.

Karnataka promoting Wine Tourism

Karnataka state government, in its soon-to-be-announced wine policy, has planned to promote wine tourism. A green signal to this effect was given by the cabinet last week. "Tourists can stroll through picturesque vineyards and be a part of the wine-making process. They can also buy fresh wine," horticulture department sources said.

Teachers convention Urges Government against withdrawing recognition

BANGALORE: A State-level convention of teachers and managements of private English-medium schools on Saturday warned the coalition Government not to play with children's education by withdrawing recognition to English-medium primary schools and urged it to reconsider the decision in the interest of the students and the public.
