Darshan join hands with Ashwini productions

Ashwini Ramprasad of Aswini banner has announced his next project with actor Darshan in the lead. Aswini's promising venture 'Preethi Eke Bhooomi Mele Idhe' directed and acted by Prem is still under progress. It is known that there could be delay in the Prem project as Prem and Rakshita are getting married shortly and planning to holiday for a while. Meantime the producer plans to start off with the Darshan film which will be directed by Govindu. However the film will be released only after Prem's Preethi Eke Bhooomi Mele Idhe.

Mungaaru Male

Mungaaru Male directed by Yograj Bhatt tells a love story themed on the backdrop of mansoon rain. The film tells a typical rich boy meets poor girl romantic tale. Ganesh pairs with newcomer Sanjana in the film. Ganesh puts up a fine performance who falls for the girl at the first sight itself. However the climax leaves the viewers with a bit disappointment. Camerawork by Krishna is worth a mention who brings out some refreshing scenes with the nature, rain and rabbits in the backdrop.

Bhanta directed by Y S Das. Adi Lokesh plays the hero in the film. Others in the cast include Karthik, Kangan Puri, Shruthi, Raghuvaran, Shobharaj, Sharathchandrakumar etc. The music is by Naveen Mangalore and Praveen. Nandeesh produces the film. The shooting of the film is underway in and around Karnataka including Mysore, Bangalore etc.

Hockey: Karnataka wins title after 10yrs

Karnataka boys team has won the South Zone senior men's hockey championship title beating Andhra pradesh 1-0 in the final. The win in the tournament helped Karnataka won the title after a gap of 10 years. Andhra which entered the finals beating defending champion Tamil Nadu however failed to reproduce the victory. "This title means a lot to us. We are winning it after such a long gap." said Karnataka coach.

Govt to recruit 23,000 teachers shortly

Karnataka govt has plans to to recruit 23,000 teachers by next year to various primary, secondary schools and pre-university colleges in the state. "By the coming May end,the government will appoint 23,000 teachers," Yediyurappa announced at a press meet here in the company of Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Basavaraj Horatti. The recruitment will be done in phases and appointment orders to 4,768 primary schools teachers would be issued by next week.

Mallika does an item number in Prem's film

Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat was recently in Bangalore ssociated with the shooting of a Kannada movie. The senstational actress was shooting for actor-director Prem's upcoming film, Preethi Eke Bhoomi Melidhe. She danced to the tunes of a racy item number amidst tight security in the busy streets of Magadi Road. The music for the song was composed by music director R.P. Patnayak. The single Mallika song itself is said to have cost the producer a huge sum.

CM's suspension withdrawn

JD(S) has revoked the suspension of chief minister H D Kumaraswamy and 38 other MLAs after the disciplinary panel accepted the legislators explanation detailing the "compelling" reasons which prompted them to take such an action. However senior leader Surendra Mohan still remains suspended from the party. The decison on this regard was taken after a meeting of National Executive of JD (S) held at the residence of party chief H D Deve Gowda. The suspension of the MLAs came after their alliance with BJP to form government in Karnataka early this year.

BSNL is launching its service of enabling its subscribers to send SMSs in Kannada script, and BSNL Karnataka Telecom Circle will be the first to provide the service. This is offered to BSNL's mobile subscribers with Java MIDP 2.0-compatible handsets. The message service is made available with a deal between the BSNL and technology firm, Geneva Software Technologies Ltd.

Oracle with $5.4 million aid for polytechnic students

IT giant, Oracle India has announced its decision to provide USD $5.4mn grants towards IT training for polytechnic students in Karnataka. Oracle India Private Limited and the directorate of technical education (DTE), ministry of higher education, government of Karnataka, have signed an MoU on this regard which aims to introduce the Oracle Academy programme to 100 polytechnic institutes. As the first phase, 50 polytechnic institutes will start teaching the Oracle course curriculum from the next academic semester, starting in early 2007. The remaining 50 institutes will introduce the curriculum in late 2007.

Ban on soft drinks reimposed in State

Just a couple of days after lifting the ban on colas and pepsi, the Karnataka government has reimposed the ban on sale of soft drinks within the premises of all schools, colleges and students hostels. The ban has been imposed considering the ill effects it has on children which can result in childhood obesity, diabetes, osteoporosis, tooth decay etc. Similar ban has been imposed in several states in the US, Uk and other countries.

With an effort to expand its operations, Dubai's leading airliner Emirates Airlines has opened a new office in Bangalore at Vittal Mallya Road. "We are delighted to open the new office to give world-class service to our Bangalore customers," said the Airlines executive Vice President on the occasion. The airline is also planning to start another dozen offices at various parts across India. Emirates Airlines has recently begun services to Bangalore its 5th destination in S India and operates eight flights a week.

Govt's new scheme to create 4.5 lakh jobs

Karnataka government has come up with a new scheme that is expected to create 4.5 lakh jobs within the State by focussing on small and medium scale industries. This will include giving job oriented training and providing employment to 1.5 lakh people, said Minister for Large and Medium Industries. The JD(s)-BJP led coalition govt had earlier given assurance to provide 1 lakh jobs and half of it was already being given and the rest will soon be covered, he said.

Ban on colas withdrawn in State

The ban on sale of colas near educational institutions, hospitals and government offices that was put into force by the Karnataka government has been withdrawn. This comes with the Government filing a memo before the Karnataka High Court placing before it a notification of December 14 withdrawing the ban it had imposed on Pepsi. Earlier the ban was challenged by the Pepsico and with the govt notification the ban is being lifted in the State.

Kannada a must in State schools

The Karnataka government has made it mandatory for all students in the State schools to opt for Kannada as a subject from the next academic year. This would be applicable to high school students including those getting transferred from other states and changing over from CBSE/ICSE syllabuses to State board. Earlier such students had an option to study Alternative English instead of Kannada and this will be withdrawn from the next year, informed Minister for primary and secondary education.

Kasturi is being launched under the banner of Amogh Broadband Service is also owned by the Karnataka Chief Minister's family. The channel will mainly focus on entertainment based programmes. Rlwys move to remove Kannada boards opposed

The Union Railways decision to remove regional language boards from trains and platforms has been strongly opposed by Kannada leaders. Many think that such an order would only suppress the growth of regional languages including Kannada. Milk price hike from Dec 15

The Karnataka milk Federation has announced a Re 1 per litre hike for the price of Nandini milk across the State. The revised price will come into effect from December 15th. The current RS 13 per liter would now be made Rs 14 per liter. The price of standard milk with 4.5 pc fat will go from Rs 14 to Rs 15 while that of full cream milk will be Rs 18 instead of Rs 16. The price increase is owing to the increase in production and transportation charges and has been endorsed by all the milk unions in the State.

Bhoopathy progresses in Blore

3.5 mn tonn J K Cement plant in Mudhol

Leading North Indian based cement manufacturers, JK Cement is setting up a 3.5 million tonne greenfield cement plant in Mudhol at Bagalkot district Karnataka. The project is worth Rs. 1,000 crore investment. The plant will be set up in two phases. A three-million-tonne grey cement plant estimated at Rs. 950 crore would be sbuild in the first phase while Rs. 120 cr project of a split-grinding unit would be made at Bellary in the second phase.

It was a narrow win for Siddaramaiah at the Chamundeswari byelections in Mysore. Congress candidate Siddhu who had won the elections at a margin of just 257 votes defeating JD-S rival Shivabasappa. Siddhu had earlier won 4 times from the constituency but this time was one of the closest battle he had ever fought. Opposition Congress leader Dharam Singh that Sidhu's victory was also a vote against the ruling JD(S)-BJP coalition government. "It is certainly a loss of face for JD(S) chief H D Deve Gowda, his son Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa," he said.

Sunil Joshi has bagged the best bowler award while Robin Uthappa won the Man of the Match award and Thilak Naidu won the best batsman award. Scores: Karnataka (1st innings): 371. Chamundeshwari goes to bypolls

Madana is directed by actor Jai Jagdish who is making his directorial venture with the film. Jagdish's nephew Auditya stars as the hero who plays a college boy who falls in love with a girl who in turn cheats on him. On despair he commits suicide and his look alike brother takes revenge on the girls in the town. He madly falls for them at first and later takes their life. And he leaves no clue behind to unveil the murder. The film proves to be a thriller offering a lot of suspense and drama till the end. Though a solid storyline is still lacking it keeps the audience interest. Songs are nothing special. Samiksha, Sania etc casts in the film.

5 lakh in State affected by HIV

About 5 lakh people in Karnataka is said to have affected with AIDS or infected by virus in the State. The spread of the disease is more pervalent in the northern districts of the State due to its proximity to red light areas in the Mumbai and Goa regions.
