Kodagu very much of Karnataka: CM

Ruling out any move to support the demand for a seperate state of Kodagu, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa asserted that Kodagu was an integral part of the State and would remain as it is.
He said that his government would oppose any move to seperate Kodagu from the State and this has been consulted with the Center also. There has been a demand for a seperate Kodava state which is mainly attributed to the uniqueness of culture in this region.

Nilekani resigns Infy to join cabinet

Nandan Nilekani, will resign as co-chairman and board member of Infosys Technologies Ltd, who has been assigned the cabinet rank as chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India.
He will lead the government's ambitious project to implement the Unique Identification Scheme which has been earmarked Rs 100 crore in the interim budget of 2009-10.
The project is aimed with providing a unique identification number for all the citizens of the country, similar to the social security number in the US. To start with this will be issued to all voters in the present electoral roll.

H R Bhardwaj is new Karnataka Governor

Former Union Law Minister, Hans Raj Bhardwaj has been appointed as the new Governor of Karnataka on Wednesday. He is replacing the present Governor Rameshwar Thakur who is newly appointed as Madhya Pradesh Governor.
He is a member of the Congress and is an elected Member of Parliament representing the state of Haryana in the Rajya Sabha.

Sommana inducted to cabinet

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has inducted V Sommana to the Karnataka Cabinet with the latter sworn in as minister on Thursday making the tally of members in the cabinet to 34.
Mr Somanna is designated with the portfolio of Housing and Muzrai which was earlier handled by S N Krishnaiah Shetty. He will assume office from Friday. The 4 time MLA joined BJP during th recent LS elections after quitting Congress.

Muniappa to focus rail safety,security

The Minister of State for Railways K H Muniyappa from Karnataka has been designated with the task of handling railways security and safety.
Besides this the Minister will also handle the rail development covering states like Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh.
Railways Minister Mamta Banerjee has also designated him with the responsibilty of matters related to railways in Karnataka. The coordination of roles among the deputees comes with the Prime Minister directing Union Ministers to assign equal distribution of work to all ministers concerned.
